(...) I am sending you some conclusions and my opinion about the best strategy in this moment.
First of all let me give you a brief report of the tests that have been performed at our Institution:
Tumoral Markers: CEA is 3.2 (0-10.0) and CA 15-3 is 18.7 (0-31.0). Both inside the normal range.
MRI of the breast: there is no evidence of tumor in this moment. (...)
PET/CT: there are several metastasis in bone (...) These lesions do not have metabolic activity in the PET/CT in this moment.
The first conclusion that you can obtain from these results is that you are responding very well to the chemotherapy that has been administrated, and my first recommendation is to complete 6 cycles of docetaxel (you have received 4 cycles so far).
After finishing 6 cycles of docetaxel I will maintain the response with hormonal therapy. (...)
Regarding the surgery of the primary tumor in the breast, I think that with the results of the MRI and the PET/CT it is not so clear that a surgery in this moment would be beneficial. It is probably that there are still cells in the breast but there is no evidence of tumor in the MRI or in the PET/CT. So, an alternative is to evaluate it periodically and to perform the surgery when macroscopic tumor is evident. (...)
I hope that this information would be usefully for you. I will send you a complete report and the results of the tests performed at MD Anderson.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for any additional information or doubt. Receive my best regards.
Resumindo, afinal a quimio é para concluir, a mama não é para tirar, pelo menos para já, ou seja, estamos em linha com a médica do hospital. Melhor assim. E está tudo a correr bem, que é o que se quer! Não há metástases novas!!
